Skimboarding has been evolving the last decades but, in 1986, a TV show called "A Day at the Beach" highlighted the water sport in the Southern California beaches.

"It seems like a lot of beaches activities always have something to do with boards. You have surfboards, sail boards, boogie boards, skate boards and now skimboards", says the "A Day at the Beach" host.

Austin Keen has conquered the 26th Ave Skimbash, in Santa Cruz, California.


Sam Stinnet has already taken the 2012 United Skim Tour, but the curtain has not been closed. With two stages to be contested, there's glory and ranking positions to confirm.

The Stinnet family has been dong very good. Jake got through, heat by heat, and finished in second place, ahead of Tim Fulton and Sam.

Kelmer Sandoval: skimboard master in Costa Rica

Kelmer Sandoval has conquered the 2nd Skim Jam, held in Costa Rica.


Sandoval claimed the Open division of the contest surfed in Playa Prieta, near the town of Guanacaste.

The weather conditions were quite good for a challenging skimboard battle. There were some clouds in the sky, a few sun rays and waist-to-shoulder high waves breaking in the shore.

United Skim Tour: skimboarding showdown

The 2012 United Skim Tour is over. Sam Stinnett has been crowned the best skimboarder of the season, as the last stage Newport Beach defined the Top 10 riders.


Austin Keen picked up the win at the Oktoberfest, but strong performances by everyone else prevented him from picking up much ground. Perry Pruitt picked up second place and landed in sixth place on the UST. A fine showing for his rookie season.

Brandon Sears took third, so held onto 7th place on the tour, while Jake Stinnett placed 4th, just low enough for Austin Keen to pass him with a win in the final event.

Hugo Santos: Portuguese Skimboarding champion

Hugo Santos has been crowned the 2012 Portuguese Skimboarding champion, at the S. Pedro do Estoril Beach.


Hugo Santos confirms the status of Portugal's best skimboarder. The waves of Estoril confirmed his excelent level in the two-to-three foot onshore faces.

The National Skimboard Circuit ended up after four stages held in Sesimbra, Espinho, Ericeira and Estoril.

Skimboarding: the power of the wake

A group of skimboarders and wakeboarders decided to get the most of wake surf waves to ride it at Boca Grande Pass, Florida.


The Phase 5 Wakesurf Boards team hit the sands of Englewood to catch the boat wake and ride it endlessly. The deeper water right off the shoreline provided the ideal scenario for what the riders were trying to do.

Skimboarders included Stephen Bradford, Justin Boisclair, Dave Armstrong, Max Smetts, Drew Danielo, Dave Scott, Justin Shock and Zach Smetts.

Boardwalk Blowup: hitting the Indialantic ramps

A spectacular group of skimboarders invaded Indialantic, in Florida, for two days of Boardwalk Blow-Up 2013, with shifting ocean conditions.


The Boardwalk Blow-Up is a skimboarding institution. Dozens of experienced and novice skimmers returned to the Floridian sands for a couple of action days.

In the first day of competition, there were clean, 1-2 foot offshore waves pumping Indialantic. In small wave conditions, it's easier to confirm who the best riders are.

United Skim Tour: skimming action

The United Skim Tour 2013 season will begin with the UST World Cup of Skimboarding, at Sununga, Brazil, between 23rd-28th April.


The world's most relevant professional skimboard tour and the sanctioning body for skimboarding events on both coasts of the USA has defined a schedule for 2013.

After the Brazilian leg, the best skimboarders will travel to Cabo San Lucas, in Mexico, for the 2013 Cabo Clasico, between May 24th-26th.

Sam Stinnett has conquered the Sununga World Cup, in Brazil, the first stage of the 2013 United Skim Tour.


The Ubatuba event, held near Sao Paulo, has been considered one of the best skimboarding contests in the history of the sport, delivering its famous right-hand skim sidewash.

With skimboarders traveling from Portugal, France, UK, Australia, Mexico, Chile, Venezuela and USA, the 2013 Sununga World Cup was only waiting for some real action, in the shore break.

Austin Keen: hair games

The new 2013 United Skim Tour (UST) champion will be decided at the Balboa Oktoberfest, in Newport Beach, California.


The heat is on as Sam Stinnett and Austin Keen race for the world skimboarding title. The Vilano and Santa Cruz were not enough to crown a champion, so it all comes down to the wire, at Newport Beach.

At this point, they have locked down first and second place for 2013. All that remains is to see if Austin will be able to overtake the two-time champion, or if he will have to settle for a runner-up finish.

Austin Keen has conquered the 2013 Oktoberfest, in Newport Beach, California, to claim the 2013 United Skim Tour title.


The last event of the world skimboarding season was critical for Austin Keen. Sam Stinnett and Keen were in a neck and neck race for the 2013 UST title, as both placed nearly identically in Vilano and Santa Cruz.

Only them could define the first two places in the overall rankings. The 2013 Oktoberfest promised to be an exciting event and it really was.

The 2014 United Skim Tour (UST) schedule has been announced.


The most important skimboarding tour in the world will kick off its 2014 season on the 24th March, in Sununga, Brazil. It's the UST World Cup.

The Men's professional division will then travel to Cabo San Lucas, Dewey Beach, Laguna Beach, Outer Banks, Vilano Beach, Santa Cruz and Newport Beach.

Jack Tenney and Casey Kiernan have conquered the Boardwalk Blow Up 2014, in Indialantic, Florida.

Two days of waves, and plenty of smiles. The Boardwalk Blow Up 2014 run multiple divisions in the white sands of the Floridian town.

Light winds and high tides proved to be the best conditions for high-end skimboarding. In the Women's competition, Casey Kiernan displayed front and backside arsenal to claim the trophy.

Danny Diaz has been crowned winner of the Tour Lafkenche Skimboard 2014, in Chile.

Skimboarding is probably the only wave sport in which you have to run for the waves. Literally. And that was exactly what riders did in the three rounds of the Tour Lafkenche Skimboard 2014, held in Chile.

With surf drones in the air capturing all the action, it's interesting to watch how South Americans are keen to skimboard and put up highly competitive events.
